Immersing into the Bitcoin Ecosystem: Elysium’s experience at Tuscany Lightning Summit

Viareggio, Italy | April 2–4, 2024

Elysium’s team made their way to Viareggio, Italy, ready to join another insightful event: the Tuscany Lightning Summit. It is the second edition that Elysium was invited to, and the excitement was high. This year was even more crowded than 2023, attracting a great number of Bitcoin’s core developers.

For this business trip the two Founders, Aron Clementi CEO and Gianmarco Guazzo CTO, Fadi Barbara Head of Research and Michele Fontana Front-End Developer arrived in Tuscany for the summit’s opening. Joining a networking aperitif where they could dive into the Lightning’s vibes and make insightful conversations within the Bitcoin community. All while enjoying the sunset on the beautiful seaside of Viareggio.

On the second day of the summit, our team had the exciting opportunity to contribute to the event with a presentation titled “Bitcoin for the masses” and share our vision on how we want to make the Bitcoin ecosystem accessible to everyone.

The presentation highlighted the state of the art of Bitcoin and its flaws in terms of how it is missing a user-friendly approach and how Elysium, with its technology, is stepping in with a solution.

As Aron presented on stage, he underlined the overall market situation and how Bitcoin is one of the biggest revelations of the internet. However, its success and scalability potential has not been yet unlocked. Why? Because right now, it is mainly for tech-savvy people, leaving out many other potential users. The Bitcoin world is still lacking a user-friendly approach and new systems to handle account security and Bitcoin Payments.

Gianmarco then discussed the concept of Bitcoin ossification — as on one side the technology is solid making it stable and secure, while on the other side it is resistant to changes that are needed for its scalability and improvements in UX. The objective is to address this stagnation by focusing on improving the Application layer of the technology. Following Gianmarco, Fadi dived into the technical problems related to the current technology solutions present on the market, in specific the drawbacks of seed phrases and the limitations of current signature options.

Fadi Barbara, our Head of Research, presenting the the technical details of the current solutions on the market.

Finally, we have presented the idea we are working on, aimed at making Bitcoin accessible to a wider audience, keeping its characteristics of non-custody, security, and independence, all while enhancing simplicity and usability.

Our final slide, presenting a sneak peak of our solution.

Bitcoin was not created to be held by a custody provider or banks. Our goal is to keep the non-custodial nature of the technology, ensuring individuals autonomy and security over their financial assets. Simultaneously, we aim to upgrade the interface to welcome new users into the Bitcoin world. Elysium’s objective is to bring more people onboard, filling the gaps with our technology– easy enough for new users, yet secure enough for expert ones.

In conclusion, the presentation was followed by a short discussion, exchange of opinions and great feedback! The audience asked insightful questions and showed strong curiosity towards Elysium.

The event was rich of panels, talks, presentations, and workshops, offering a wide range of insights and in-depth technical knowledge on the advancements of Bitcoin Layer-2, with a special focus on the Lightning Network. Along these engaging sessions, we had the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces from Breez, AdFulcon, and our esteemed partners Fulgur Ventures.

We also had the pleasure of catching up with Giacomo Zucco, who gave us a shout-out during his panel “Future of Wallets”. Incredible right? He mentioned: “…The keyless solution from the Elysium guys”, highlighting the little, but meaningful steps that we are making in the industry.

To conclude the summit in style, the event organized an excursion with Land Rovers to explore the fascinating marble caves of Carrara. The excursion was followed by an exclusive aperitif inside the unique setting of the caves, which fostered even more networking among Bitcoin enthusiasts.

We would like to thank Fulgur Ventures for the invite, as they are part of the Plan B network and the main supporters of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

The Lightning Summit left our team excited, ready to come home and dive back into the Elysium hustle!
